Dell xps m1330 recovery partition download

It's true that Vista's onboard partitioning application even the command line version diskpart is to stupid to handle this case. Repeat for linux swap if you prefer. Otherwise hitting MD button while computer is off, might screw your partition table and all data only the tool TestDisk will help you in this case.

If you can't get this to work, you might also install Ubuntu into a file inside your Windows partition. Ubuntu 8. You will most probably shut off the laptop then. Wait for it to finish and shut off. Next time you press power, Windows should start again. I did not yet loose data because of Media Direct, but I had to help a lot of people who did self destruct their system. I don't know how you cleaned your partition. If you erased the entire disk, it might help. I 've seen many, many peope google for "media direct self desctruct" nuking their system exactly by ONLY deleting the MD partition.

It's a completely independent Operating System. What you install in Vista or not, doesn't matter at all.

The MD partition is a logical partition inside an extended partition even if Windows Vista has some difficulties to display that. The Vista MBR can not boot from such a partition, so what happens is that media direct gets swapped with the Dell utility partition when pressing MD button and Windows partition gets inactive:.

Unfortunately we don't know much more well at least I don't know , although I have disassembled some code, but the critical code seems to be inside the BIOS and I'm not going to disassemble the entire BIOS just to find out. The Dell XPS M is a monumental step in that it takes the best things from other great ultraportables and combines them into a single entity. My only peeve is that the weight can get up there with the nine-cell battery. Otherwise, this ultraportable should easily sit at the top of any laptop shopping list.

It's strange, in a way, because the M isn't much of an upgrade from the W3J in terms of absolute hardware specifications. The display sizes are almost the same, both offer 2. It's more of a sidegrade than a pure upgrade. The resulting Windows Experience benchmark scores are almost the same for both laptops, too. Of course, the first thing I did after getting the machine was format the hard drive.

It's a sad fact of life in the PC ecosystem, but if you want a machine clean of bloatware and useless, paid-endorsement installed craplets including Google Desktop, I might add , you have to raze it to the ground yourself immediately after unboxing it. This is a particularly egregious problem on the 32 GB solid state hard drive, because it had a 10 GB "restore" partition, and a 6 GB "media direct" partition pre-installed from the factory.

Nothing like booting up a system with an already-limited 32 GB storage device and finding you only have 16 GB of disk space available. Way to go, Dell. After formatting and beginning a clean install of Vista, I ran into a little problem where the machine would bluescreen immediately on startup after the install.

I found that switching the hard drive interface from AHCI back to standard fixed that problem. According to the BIOS warning, this precludes the use of Intel's Robson onboard Flash memory cache , but with a solid state hard drive in play I don't think that's much of a loss.

The only drivers you'll need for a clean bit Vista install are video, sound, and wired network-- all available from the Dell XPS M driver download page. Everything else is included in the default set of Vista drivers. Beware, though, because bit drivers aren't available for the video card yet. I dont care about the bloatware that comes with it. Cheers for any help. The Recovery Partition that comes with xps m is useful, but in no way necessary.

It wouldn't be worth bothering to try to find ways of getting it back So long as you have the Vista Cd and the Drivers CD that came with the laptop. From the sound of it the best thing to do is to do a complete re-install. Put the Vista cd in.

Press Install. In the next screen go through all your partitions and delete them. This will delete everything on your laptop.
